Job Description
Business Development Manager
£65,000 – £70,000 Basic + Commission
London (Office-Based with National Travel)
We are recruiting a high-calibre Business Development Manager to drive measurable growth across corporate and public sector markets within a fast-growing, delivery-focused security services organisation.
This is a senior, high-accountability role with clear targets, ownership, and visibility at leadership level.
You will own new business growth end-to-end — from opportunity identification and senior engagement through to bid leadership, contract award, and mobilisation handover. Central to the role is direct leadership of the bid function, ensuring a disciplined, compliant, and high-quality bid pipeline that consistently converts. You will work in lockstep with Operations and Compliance to ensure every deal sold is deliverable, profitable, and low risk.
This role suits a commercially sharp, structured, and target-driven individual who thrives on accountability, leads from the front, and understands how to win in both corporate sales environments and regulated public sector procurement.
Key Responsibilities
Bid Team Leadership (Core Requirement)
Directly manage the bid team (writers, coordinators, contributors) with clear ownership, deadlines, and standards
Run full bid governance: bid/no-bid, kick-off, content planning, reviews, approvals, and submissions
Ensure bids are evidence-led, compliant, and aligned to evaluation criteria and scoring methodology
Enforce document control, version management, and portal discipline
Develop and maintain bid libraries, templates, case studies, and credentials
Lead win/loss reviews and implement continuous improvement
New Business & Growth (Corporate + Public Sector)
Identify, qualify, and win opportunities across corporate clients and public sector bodies
Lead senior-level engagement: meetings, pitches, presentations, negotiations, and closures
Execute account and sector strategies with structured outreach and conversion activity
Drive renewals, upsell, and cross-sell within strategic accounts
Operational & Compliance Alignment
Validate staffing models, mobilisation plans, SLAs, and KPIs with Operations before commitment
Work with Compliance to ensure offers meet required standards (ISO, H&S, vetting, data protection)
Own the sales-to-delivery handover to ensure smooth mobilisation and client success
Reporting & Performance
Deliver accurate pipeline, bid, and forecast reporting via CRM
Run weekly pipeline and bid reviews and monthly performance reporting
Track and deliver against mapped targets: meetings, bids, conversions, revenue, margin, and wins
Key Skills & Experience
Proven success in B2B business development with demonstrable contract wins
Strong experience winning work via tenders, frameworks, and direct corporate sales
Proven bid team leadership with governance, quality control, and deadline management
Strong commercial capability: pricing, margins, negotiation, and risk management
Excellent written, presentation, and senior stakeholder engagement skills
Highly target-driven, disciplined with CRM, confident forecasting and reporting
Qualifications & Requirements
Corporate-sector business development experience essential
Public sector procurement experience highly advantageous
Background in security, FM, risk, or outsourced services preferred
Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel nationally
Sales or business development qualifications beneficial
